What It Costs, November 2009
In September, 2009, we started a cost index to track changes in the cost of residential construction. The subject house is a hypothetical 2,000 sf wood-framed house built in Independence, Missouri. The index does not tell us what a dome home of that size will cost. It indicates how average material and labor costs in that region will affect the cost of residential construction in general, so that we can spot trends of rising or falling costs.
For September, the index was 288.345. For both October and November, the index has been constant, indicating a period of stable costs.
