Domes in Future City Competition

National Engineers Week (EWeek)

The finals for the 17th Annual Future City Competition, a part of EWeek, took place February 16-18 in Washington, DC. Student teams from 38 middle schools nationwide participated. As winners of regional competitions, they presented their models of cities with homes featuring “self-sufficient systems that conserve, recycle and reuse water.”

Structural Engineer C.V. Surendran of Surendran Consulting, LLC, Lubbock, Texas attended and sent us an email saying that several of the Future City entries featured domes. He thought it was interesting that students “came up with the idea that dome housing be the best, (although) they had never heard about Monolithic.”
