The Mudd-Puddle Dome On The Prairie: A Sight To See! Mudd-Puddle Dome On The Prairie — In about 7 months, Kay and Ernest Mudd of Dighton, Kansas have proudly shown their Monolithic Dome home and garage to 1000 visitors. A spacious, gracious home — It’s a multi-level dome with 4,900 square feet and has 6 bedrooms, 4 1/2 bathrooms, a large center room with living and dining areas, a kitchen, laundry, storage and maintenance areas. Twinkie — A visitor told the Mudds their 4-car garage looked like 2 giant Twinkies, so that’s what they call it. A very roomy Twinkie — Besides cars, this Twinkie houses a workshop where Ernest creates incense bottles and tin men to give as gifts and sell at craft shows. Welcome! — A front door with beautifully crafted, glass panels welcomes visitors. Enter please! — The front door and entry way opens onto a spacious center room. Family Room — The large, central area includes a comfortable family room. Something for Everyone — The Mudds entertain, play games, read, watch TV or just relax in their family room. Dining — Just off the family room, there’s a dining area. Hungry? — A cabinet separates the dining room and kitchen that has a more casual eating area. Stairway — It has a hemlock banister that was built inside the dome. Banister — The Mudds were told that their hemlock banister would not stain evenly. “But I like that,” Kay said. “Some of it is dark, some of it light, but that makes it look more natural.” Bedroom — Beds in all bedrooms are covered with beautifully crafted quilts. Master Bath — It includes a walk-in bathtub that makes bathing easier for Kay who has rheumatic arthritis. Shower — Besides the walk-in tub, the master bath has a roomy shower. Play Time! — The Mudds and their guests love playing pool. A welcoming light in the darkness! — Despite the hour or the weather, the Mudds feel safe and secure in their Monolithic Dome on the Prairie.
